Fillings

Our practice provides numerous options for patients to choose from for standard fillings.

Composite Resin Bonding

Composite bonding is the application of a resin material to the existing tooth.  Bonding can be used for filling cavities, masking discolored teeth, repairing fractures and making cosmetic improvements to the dentition, usually in one visit.

How is composite resin applied?

Cosmetic Tooth bonding uses composite resin to repair chipped, cracked, spaced or uneven teeth.  The resin is applied to an etched tooth for a strong bond and a desired esthetic effect.  Preparation of a tooth for composite resin is very minimal and conservative.  Oftentimes, no anesthetic is needed.

Is composite bonding for me?

Good candidates for bonding are those with cracked or stained teeth due to excessive wear or old silver fillings.  It is important that you aren’t a heavy smoker or coffee drinker.  If you want a less invasive, cost effective option to have an aesthetically pleasing smile, look no further.

How to maintain bonded teeth

Studies show bonded teeth last roughly 5-8 years, but with good care can last much longer.  Taking proper care of bonded teeth includes maintaining a 6 month or less cleaning schedule, good brushing and flossing habits, avoiding chewing ice or fingernails, and minimizing consumption of staining food and beverages.
If bonding includes your front teeth, a properly fitting night guard especially for people with tooth clenching or grinding habits is very important.

If you are looking for a more permanent or long lasting option, veneers or crowns may be a better option.
